Elaine Goh_Math Tuition Specialist

Mrs Elaine Goh

Hello! I’m Mrs. Elaine Goh, also known as Teacher Elaine to my students. I have been working with students to rebuild their confidence and sharpen their Mathematics skills for over eight years. My journey began when I sought ways to support my own two sons, who both have unique learning needs. One of my sons is on the Autism Spectrum and has ADD, while the other has Dyslexia.

I struggled to find tutors or programs that could adequately support their needs, which led me to pursue a Specialist Diploma in Specific Learning Differences from the Dyslexic Association of Singapore Academy. I wanted to learn effective methods to help my children and empower them to succeed in Mathematics. Through these efforts, both my sons were able to excel in their PSLE exams and were admitted to Raffles Institution and the School of Science and Technology.

Since then, I have extended my support to other students and families, sharing the approach I developed over the years. Until recently, family commitments limited the time I could dedicate to teaching, but now I am excited to reach and help more students through the system I created.

My Unique Approach to Teaching Mathematics

With a deep passion for both Mathematics and Special Needs Education, I have crafted methods that address specific learning challenges in Mathematics. My approach fills gaps often left by standard curriculum materials and traditional tutoring, making Mathematics accessible and achievable for all students.

For high-performing students, I provide advanced thinking models and concepts that push them to operate their problem solving skills at a top level. For students preparing for PSLE, I focus on building accuracy, speed, and consistency through disciplined practice and preparing for ‘special’ questions in PSLE that differentiates the AL1s from the rest.

Even thought I work with Top Performers and Developing Students, I make sure that each student needs are carefully taken care of and they can reach their respective potential.

My Proven Methods & Techniques

Why I Believe in Small Group Coaching

I have developed a unique methodology, MathArchery, which draws on customized materials from various resources. One key feature of my curriculum is “Mathercises” – exercises designed to improve Accuracy, Speed, and Consistency (ASC), which are essential for exam success.

For advanced students, I help them focus on areas that will earn additional marks, rather than revisiting topics where they already excel. This targeted approach ensure that their math muscle is being constantly challenged. In addition, they must also be exposed and trained in solving unexpected high-order thinking questions that will 100% will appear at every PSLE to differentiate the top performers from the rest.

One more thing, they must be trained to be consistent, accurate and have speed in solving questions.

For students who struggle or have learning challenges, I begin with bite-sized and progressively challenging questions. Confidence, a critical factor in motivation and growth, is built gradually rather than through immediate exposure to difficult problems. For example, a P5 student struggling with fractions may need to work on fundamental concepts before tackling more complex questions.

My teaching techniques include:

  • Smart Repetition and Reinforcement
  • Heuristics Training at Different Levels
  • Pomodoro Method for Concentration
  • Mental Toughness and Resilience Development
  • Using Math Tools and Manipulatives

I usually limit my classes to 4-5 students, allowing me to provide close, personalized guidance. Small group coaching is particularly beneficial for students with special learning needs or even students who are high-achieving, as it enables me to offer focused support. Unlike the larger classroom settings typical in schools, my hands-on approach allows students to work on specific challenges or reach the top of their abilities.

This small group setting fosters a collaborative learning environment that encourages healthy competition and allows each student to build confidence from the very beginning.
