Math Headstart: Learn Next Year’s Key Topics This December Holiday
Your child learns next year’s key topics in December. When school starts in January, the lessons already feel familiar.

Math Headstart is MathArchery’s December holiday programme in Bukit Timah, Singapore, for children moving up to Primary 4, Primary 5 or Primary 6 in 2027. Teacher Elaine introduces the key topics of the new level over three days, from Wednesday to Friday, in a small group. Each level has two runs to choose from, between 2 and 18 December 2026.
Why start before January?
Every new level brings topics your child has not met before. Primary 4 brings harder fractions and decimals. Primary 5 brings fractions with remainders and percentage. Primary 6 brings ratio, algebra, circles and average.
In school these topics move quickly. A child who has met the idea once already has room to ask questions, because they are not busy trying to keep up.
Sometimes it just takes something to click in a child’s mind. December gives your child the time for that.
What a first lesson looks like · Primary 6, ratio
“Ali and Ben share 35 stickers in the ratio 2 : 3. How many stickers does each boy get?”
We draw 2 units for Ali and 3 units for Ben. The 5 units are 35 stickers, so 1 unit is 7 stickers. Ali gets 14 stickers and Ben gets 21.
Your child draws the question before they calculate it. When the picture makes sense, the method is easy to remember.

P4 Headstart
For children moving up to Primary 4 in 2027
Primary 4 Fractions and Decimals
- Model drawing and arithmetic skills
- Pattern recognition, logic and counting
- Number sense and curiosity about maths
Three lessons of 2.5 hours, 7.5 hours in all.
P5 Headstart
For children moving up to Primary 5 in 2027
Primary 5 Fractions (with remainder) and Percentage
- Model drawing and branching
- Math heuristics, with a focus on fractions and parts
- Non-routine competition questions that strengthen thinking skills and logic
Three lessons of 3 hours, 9 hours in all.
P6 Headstart
For children moving up to Primary 6 in 2027
Average, Ratio, Circles and Algebra
- The basic concept of each topic, and how to apply it
- Questions chosen from past PSLE papers and school papers
- Higher-order thinking skills across the PSLE topics
Three lessons of 3 hours, 9 hours in all.
How Math Headstart works
Choose a run. Each level has two runs, and both runs cover the same programme.
Message us on WhatsApp. Tell us your child’s level next year and the run you prefer. We will confirm the place and tell you how to pay.
Your child comes for three days in a row. The lessons build on each other from Wednesday to Friday.
Every topic starts with the concept. Teacher Elaine teaches the idea with model drawing first. Then your child tries questions on their own.
Which of these sounds like your child?
“She did well this year, and I want to keep it going.”
Headstart gives a strong student harder questions on next year’s topics, including non-routine ones.
“He needs more time with new topics.”
Meeting a topic once before school teaches it gives your child that time. The group is small, so he can ask.
“Everyone says Primary 5 is a big jump.”
Primary 5 brings fractions with remainders and percentage. We introduce both with model drawing, so they are not new in January.
“PSLE is next year.”
P6 Headstart covers Average, Ratio, Circles and Algebra, with questions from past PSLE papers.
“This year’s paper showed some gaps.”

When is Math Headstart, and what does it cost?

Every run is three days, Wednesday to Friday. Both runs of a level cover the same programme.

Your child’s coach
Teacher Elaine has taught Primary, Secondary, IP and IB Mathematics for over eight years, and holds a Specialist Diploma in Specific Learning Differences. She has been through two rounds of PSLE as a mother, with two sons who each learn differently.
She teaches the reason behind a method before the method itself. Top performers and children who need more time with a new idea both belong in the studio.

Each class is named after the level your child is moving up to. A child in Primary 4 now joins P5 Headstart.
Which run should we choose?
Both runs of a level cover the same programme. Choose the dates that suit your family.
Can my child miss a day?
The three lessons build on each other, so it is best to come for all three. If one day is a problem, message us before you book.
Is Headstart only for strong students?
No. Top performers get harder questions on the new topics. Children who need more time get to meet the topics early, in a small group where they can ask.
Is there an online option?
Headstart runs in person at our studio. If your child cannot come in person, message us and we will see what we can arrange.
Does my child need to be a MathArchery student?
No. Any child moving up to Primary 4, 5 or 6 is welcome.
What if this year’s paper showed gaps?
Start with Math Recovery in November. Working on this year’s weak topics comes first, because next year’s topics build on them. See Math Recovery
What happens after December?
Your choice. Many children carry on in our weekly Primary 4, Primary 5 or Primary 6 classes when school starts.
