Secondary 4 O-Level Math Tuition
in Bukit Timah
E-Math and A-Math classes for G2 and G3 students at King Albert Park, Bukit Timah, with online and hybrid options available.

What changes in Secondary 4 maths?
Secondary 4 is the exam year, and in 2027 the exam has a new name.
From 2027, the O-Level is called the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC). A student in Secondary 4 in 2027 sits it at the end of the year, at G2 or G3 for each subject.
The maths itself has not changed. In 2027, G3 Mathematics and G3 Additional Mathematics have the same topics and the same paper format as the 2026 O-Level. What is new for your child is how much the papers cover. The E-Math papers test everything from Secondary 1 to Secondary 4. The A-Math papers test everything from Secondary 3 and 4. The written maths papers are in October and November, and results come out in January.
In the exam year, I see marks lost in three places. The first is a topic from Secondary 1, 2 or 3 that was never secure. The second is working that is missing or unclear. The third is time. I work on all three with your child.
Signs your Secondary 4 child could use help
I see these in school tests and mock papers.
Right answer, few marks
Your child writes the answer with no working. The SEC syllabus says: "Omission of essential working will result in loss of marks." I teach your child to write each step so the marker can follow it.
Marks lost to rounding
Answers must be given to 3 significant figures unless the question says otherwise. 0.04567 becomes 0.0457, not 0.046. A slip like this can cost a mark on any question.
Trigonometry equations with answers missing
For 2sin²x − sin x − 1 = 0 between 0° and 360°, your child finds x = 90° and stops. Factorising gives sin x = 1 or sin x = −½. The second one gives two more answers: 210° and 330°.
Rates of change in A-Math
A circle's radius grows at 0.2 cm per second. How fast is the area growing when the radius is 5 cm? Your child knows A = πr² but cannot link the two rates. The chain rule gives dA/dt = 2πr × dr/dt = 2π, about 6.28 cm² per second.
The long question at the end of Paper 2
The last question in E-Math Paper 2 applies maths to a real-world scenario, such as a travel plan or a household bill. It has a lot of reading. A student who is slow on the earlier questions reaches it with little time left.
Doing well and aiming higher
Some students are already strong. I give them the hardest questions from past papers, so they meet them before the exam.
How I teach Secondary 4 at MathArchery
These are four things I do with every Secondary 4 student.
I start with your child's latest test
I go through it question by question and list where the marks were lost. Then I teach those topics first, including any from Secondary 1 to 3.
I show your child how the marks are given
I show what a full answer looks like: each step of working, the reason for each geometry step, and the answer to the right accuracy. The SEC syllabus asks for all three.
I practise with exam timing
As the exam gets closer, your child works on full sections of past papers in the time the real paper allows. Then we go through every lost mark together.
I teach students who struggle and students who want more
I hold a Specialist Diploma in Specific Learning Differences, and I have taught high-ability students, including IB students. Some students need to rebuild a weak topic. Some need harder questions. I give each student the one they need.
What does the SEC maths exam test?
Your child sits two papers for each maths subject. This is what each paper looks like in 2027, from the SEAB syllabus documents.
The papers
| Subject | Paper 1 | Paper 2 |
|---|---|---|
| G3 Mathematics (E-Math) | Paper 12 h 15 minabout 26 short questions90 marks | Paper 22 h 15 min9 to 10 questions, the last one on a real-world scenario90 marks |
| G3 Additional Mathematics (A-Math) | Paper 12 h 15 min12 to 14 questions90 marks | Paper 22 h 15 min9 to 11 questions90 marks |
| G2 Mathematics | Paper 12 habout 23 short questions70 marks | Paper 22 h9 to 10 questions, then one question chosen from two70 marks |
| G2 Additional Mathematics | Paper 11 h 45 min13 to 15 questions70 marks | Paper 21 h 45 min8 to 10 questions70 marks |
Each paper is half of the subject's result. Your child may use an approved calculator in both papers, and the formula list is provided.

In person, online or hybrid
I teach Secondary students in person at my studio, online, or a mix of the two. Older students handle online lessons well. If your child is busy or unwell one week, they can join that lesson online.
My studio is MathArchery, 9 King Albert Park #02-22, KAP Mall. It is about 10 minutes' sheltered walk from King Albert Park MRT (DT6), and there is basement parking with a 10-minute grace for drop-off.

About Your Coach
I'm Elaine Goh, Teacher Elaine to my students. I have taught Primary, Secondary and IB Mathematics for 10 years, and I hold a Specialist Diploma in Specific Learning Differences. I teach both E-Math and A-Math, and I teach every lesson myself. If your child is willing to learn and work alongside me, and puts in the effort, any challenge in secondary maths can be overcome. In Secondary 4, I work with your child until the exam.

Questions parents ask
Is my child taking the O-Level or the SEC?
If your child is in Secondary 4 in 2027, they sit the SEC. The SEC takes the place of the O-Level from 2027. Many people still say "O-Level", so I use both names on this page.
Has the maths changed?
No. I compared the 2027 SEC syllabuses with the 2026 O-Level syllabuses. G3 Mathematics and G3 Additional Mathematics have the same topics and the same papers. Only the names and syllabus codes changed. Past O-Level papers are still useful practice.
Do you teach G2 and G3 students?
Yes. I teach E-Math and A-Math at G2 and G3. E-Math and A-Math are separate classes. G2 and G3 students can join the same class, and I give each student practice for the paper they will sit.
My child is behind. Is it too late to start in Secondary 4?
No. I start with your child's latest test and work first on the topics that lose the most marks. Every mark recovered in a weak topic counts in the exam.
Do you follow my child's school?
Yes. Bring the scheme of work and the latest test. I teach in the order your child's school teaches and use the school's notation.
Is there a trial lesson?
Yes. My Secondary 4 classes start in 2027. Message me on WhatsApp and we will arrange a trial lesson.
Can my child join online?
Yes. I teach Secondary classes in person, online or hybrid.
My child is in an international school. Can they join?
Yes. Message me with your child's school and syllabus, and I will tell you which class fits.
