P4 and P5 Math Intensive for the End-of-Year Exam
Understands the topic, but gets stuck on problem sums?
Two sessions with me to revise the key P4 or P5 topics, and to learn how to approach problem sums, even when the question changes. In person at King Albert Park, Bukit Timah.

I’m Teacher Elaine, and I run the October Intensive for Primary 4 and Primary 5 students before the end-of-year exam (SA2). In two sessions, your child revises the key topics and learns how to approach problem sums, even when the question changes. Each level has its own dates. Your child comes on both days of one pair.
Each level works on its own topics, in a small group. The fee is $240 for the two sessions.
What happens when the question changes?
“My child can do it, but doesn’t really understand.”
I hear this from parents all the time. The homework comes back correct. The practice paper goes well. Then the school paper asks the same idea in a different way, and the marks are gone.
Here is what I see. When a child practises one type of question many times, they learn to spot it, remember the steps and use the method. That works while the question looks familiar. School papers also have questions your child has never seen, and a remembered method is not enough for those.
More practice of the same kind will not fix this. What is missing is the idea behind the steps, and how one idea links to the next. So I teach your child why the method works. Once it clicks, a changed question is still a question your child knows how to start.
That is what these two sessions are for.
One idea, asked two ways
Primary 5 · Percentage
- The practised question
- “Find 20% of $80.” Answer: $16
- The changed question
- “A bag costs $80. The shop gives a 20% discount. How much does the bag cost now?” Answer: $64
Primary 4 · Fractions
- The practised question
- “Find 3/4 of 24.” Answer: 18
- The changed question
- “Mei had 24 stickers. She gave away 3/4 of them. How many stickers does she have left?” Answer: 6
It is the same idea both times. If your child only remembers “multiply by the percentage”, they stop at $16. If your child understands that a discount is the part taken away, the second question is just the first one with one more step. The stickers work the same way: give away 3/4, and 1/4 is left.
Is this intensive right for your child?
This intensive is right for your child if
- Your child gets practised questions right, but loses marks when the wording or the diagram changes.
- Your child can tell you the steps, but not why they work.
- The end-of-year exam is a few weeks away, and you want the big topics to make sense before then.
- Your child is doing well and is ready for harder questions on the same topics.
What does the intensive cover?
For every topic, I do three things with your child. First, we understand the concept. Next, I show how it links to what your child already knows. Then we try it in a question that looks different.

Five hours cannot reteach a whole year. So in each topic, I pick the key ideas that everything else builds on, and we train on those.
How I run the two sessions
Two sessions, 2.5 hours each. Your child comes on both days. The topics run across the two sessions, so both days cover them all. The dates for each level are below.
Pick the dates that suit you. Each level runs on the PSLE marking days and on October weekends. Every pair of dates covers the same programme. Pick the one that suits your family.
Each level has its own topics. P4 students train on P4 topics and problem sums. P5 students train on P5 topics and problem sums.
I start with what your child can see. I start each idea with something your child can see or draw, and then we move to the numbers. I always teach this way. For a wordy problem sum, the bar model comes first.
Mistakes are welcome. A wrong answer shows me which idea is missing, and we fix it on the spot. I want every child to feel safe trying an idea out loud.
I cater to top performers and developing students. The class is small, so I can teach at different paces. If your child needs an idea broken into smaller steps, I do that. If your child already has it, I give a harder question on the same idea.
I support your child after the sessions. I give your child extra questions to keep practising, and I record videos for your child to watch again before the exam.
About Your Coach
I’m Elaine Goh, Teacher Elaine to my students. I have taught Primary, Secondary and IP Mathematics for 10 years. I hold a Specialist Diploma in Specific Learning Differences and a Degree in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore. I have been through two rounds of PSLE as a mother, with two sons who each learn differently, so I know what the weeks before a paper feel like at home.
Sometimes it just takes something to click in a child’s mind. I teach for that aha moment, when a topic stops being a list of steps and starts to make sense. When a child understands, the questions start to come right. Each small win builds confidence, and that confidence goes with them into the exam hall.
When is the intensive, and what does it cost?
Choose two days for your child’s level
Each level has its own dates. Pick one pair, and your child comes on both days. Every pair covers the same programme.
This run of the intensive has finished. Message me and I will tell you when the next one opens.

- $240For the two sessions. The $240 covers everything, including the follow-up practice questions and the reference videos. There is no registration fee and no materials fee.

- I keep each class small, so seats on each date are limited.

Questions parents ask
Which dates should we choose?
Choose the pair that suits your family. Every pair covers the same programme for your child’s level, so you do not need the dates closest to the exam. After the sessions, I give extra questions and record videos, so your child keeps practising right up to the exam.
How do the PSLE marking-day sessions work?
Primary schools close for PSLE marking in the middle of October, so I open the studio on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 October. P4 comes in the morning, 9.30am to 12pm. P5 comes in the afternoon, 2.30pm to 5pm. Your child comes on both days. Same programme as the weekends, same $240.
Do P4 and P5 cover the same topics?
No. Each level has its own topics. For P4, I cover the P4 topics with Section C problem sums and model drawing. For P5, I cover the P5 topics with non-routine competition questions and a headstart on PSLE-type questions.
Can my child come for one day only?
Yes. The topics run across the two sessions, so one day covers part of them and both days cover them all. Message me and I will tell you what each day covers.
Is there an online option?
No. I teach the intensive in person only. Five hours is short, and children pick ideas up fastest at the table, with paper, pencil and the materials in their hands.
Does my child need to be a MathArchery student?
No. Any Primary 4 or Primary 5 student can join.
Will this help with the end-of-year exam?
Yes. In the two sessions, I help your child understand the main topics and use them in unfamiliar questions. Sometimes it just takes something to click. When it does, the questions start to make sense, and your child can improve from there.
How is this different from weekly tuition?
My weekly classes follow the school term and build skills over months. The intensive is two focused sessions on the biggest topics before the exam. Some children do both.
